Pipe Insulation You Will Save Money and Energy
Here are two
very good and important points you need to know if you truly
want to save money with your hot water system.
Point
1 - Insulating Your
System: By
adding insulation around the outside of your water heater
you’re keeping the heat inside the tank and reducing the
need to keep the heat turned up. This really works very
well and is a must if you live in colder
climates.
Point 2 - Insulating Your
Pipes: When adding the insulation tom your
actual water heater to save energy I highly recommend you do
the same with the hot water piping.
The thing is that
when the hot water is traveling to its destination, it stays as
hot as possible without loosing heat like it would if the pipes
were un-insulated. You see… If the water becomes cooler you’re
going to be tempted to raise the temperature on your hot
thermostat. When you insulate the pipes, the temperatures will
remain the same.
You can locate
easy to use foam pipe insulation for your pipes at just about
any hardware store, ebay and even online auctions. When you
take ownership of the insulation simply cut it to size and put
it over the piping.
By using a sharp
knife you can cut and insert it over the top of the piping
easily. Be sure you measure for a nice tight fit and secure it
over the piping with some duct tape.
When insulating a corner joint,
bend the foam to fit over the piping and secure it with the
duct tape to cover any of the slits you made to fit the
bends.
Consider
insulating the cold water pipes too if you live in an area
where the climate becomes very hot as it will also help with
saving water. The cold water pipes often sweat then drip onto
hot pipes possibly lowering temperatures even further.
Insulating your cold water pipes will help protect them from
freezing or breakings during winter months when freezing
temperatures take their toll.  Here's What To Do
